Sample Letter V

Dear Representative                              :

The importance of education to an urban community such as Springfield cannot be underestimated.  Importance issues such as an increase in crime, fewer job opportunities for students, and fewer dollars contributed by residents cannot be ignored.  A lack of education for city students equals less productive community members.

In my twenty years as an educator, I have seen a drastic decline in the city schools.  For example, when I first began teaching, Springfield schools were top notch.  They were well funded and they had many experienced educators.  Students had the resources to master classroom learning and become a productive member of society.

Now, teacher morale and student motivation is down.  Most schools do not have the technology or other basic resources to provide students with a quality education.  Society has an obligation to urban districts and students, such as Springfield, to provide for the future.  We do not have throw-away children and throw away cities.

More funding for our community is imperative.  City schools can take an active role in the growth of this city.  Please support more funding for city schools.

Sincerely,
