There is an opportunity for Springfield to receive 40,000 free books for our students!

Published:  July 1, 2015

FIRST BOOK, an organization that provides free and low cost, high quality books to schools and other organizations that serve low income students is offering 40,000 free books to Springfield, IF 2,000 people in Springfield sign up with FIRST BOOKS.  So far 1400 have signed up – that is where YOU come in.  If you have not already taken advantage of this offer, please go to  and sign up now (instructions are here).

We, at SEA,  have first hand knowledge and totally encourage you to sign up!

SEA has been using First Books for four years and with the grant from the NEA Foundation has provided books to the Springfield Collaboration for Change Schools. Most of the time, we purchased books for a very low cost (usually at least 50% off what it would cost when compared to the cost on Amazon).  One time we got books for free and just had to pay .45 per book for shipping.  That time we got 1464 books for $658!

So please, help get the 40,000 books to Springfield and gain a way to get books for your school or classroom at low cost.

The campaign to get 2,000 teachers and other people who work with children to sign up at First Books is sponsored by the Springfield Federation of Paraprofessionals  in conjunction with SPS and SEA.

Books will be distributed in August if we reach our goal.
