Executive and Legislative Boards
Executive Board
The goal of the SEA Executive Board is to increase member activity through internal organizing so that SEA membership builds the power necessary to promote positive changes to working conditions and to guarantee a quality public education for all students in Springfield.
Executive Board members are elected every two years by the membership and serve in the following roles:
- President
- Vice President
- Recording Secretary
- Treasurer
- Eleven members-at-large
- One retired member-at-large
The Executive Board members attend board meetings each month, as well as the monthly Legislative Board meeting. Executive Board members are often involved in chairing SEA committees and special projects throughout the year.
As defined by the SEA's Bylaws, the work of the Executive Board is, with input from the membership, to develop Association policies and to recommend those policies to the Legislative Board for adoption. It is also the Board's job to approve or amend, and then recommend, an annual budget to the Legislative Board, as well as approve or amend line-item adjustments to the adopted budget.
Legislative Board
Members of the Legislative Board are building representatives and are elected for one-year terms,. Each school is entitled to elect one Association Representative for every fifteen faculty members. For example, 1-15 Unit A members in a building are entitled to one representative, 16-30 Unit A members are entitled to two representatives, and so on.
Association Representatives are members' primary source of communication as they gather information at monthly L-Board meetings, pick up materials at the SEA office, and distribute materials to members in person or via school mailboxes. Association Representatives also act as liaisons between the Association and members and are instrumental in the initial steps of the grievance process.
